Special Movie Showing - Register Soon, Space Limited

UPDATE:
For those who are not interested in the discussion, the movie will be shown on an ongoing basis starting 6/16 at both the Carolina Theater in Durham and the Varsity Theater in Chapel Hill.

The University of North Carolina School of Public Health invites you to a special showing of "An Inconvenient Truth A Global Warning" followed by a discussion about the film’s message and Earth’s future.

SATURDAY, JUNE 17, NOON
Varsity Theatre
Franklin Street, Chapel Hill

TheFilm: The documentary follows former U.S. Vice President Al Gore’s “fervent crusade to halt global warming's deadly progress in its tracks by exposing the myths and misconceptions that surround it.”

Discussion: Douglas Crawford-Brown, PhD, director of the Carolina Environmental Program, professor of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, and director of the U.S. branch of the Community Carbon Reduction (CRed) Project, will lead a discussion following the film.

Crawford-Brown and other scientists predict that if nothing is done to curb carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles, homes and industry, climate change will quickly become THE public health threat of the 21st century. The discussion will focus not only on why society must act, but on how we all can contribute to the solution in North Carolina.

To register, go to www.sph.unc.edu.

The School of Public Health thanks Varsity Theater owner Bruce Stone
for allowing the School to host this special showing.
Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to defray costs.

RUMCers, please join Kathy and me after the movie for some snacks at one of the many good places on Franklin St. nearby. We can discuss the movie or just munch. This is the movie everyone is already talking about. Well almost everyone, George Bush says he will never see it. Wants to protect his current view that global warming is not happening, I guess. Also he needs to protect the corporate position that you can't prove it, just like you can't prove that smoking causes cancer, right? Just ask his corporate backers what they are telling him to say.

I won't be able to go because of Annual Conference, but do hope to see it some other time soon.

Perhaps those who can't it on Saturday could go together or apart another time and have our own discussion group.

Bill and I will bring information back from what we hear - especially about what we can do in North Carolina to respond to global warming.
